Description
Daimler Hooper Empress Mark 2A Saloon. A gorgeous piece of automotive artwork and one of 33 made.
These are coachbuilt saloons bodied by Hooper as a real high end luxury car. Fitted with such luxuries as electric front windows and a radio.
Fitted with Rover 3. 5 V8 30 years ago, which was fully stripped and rebuilt 2018 and is barely even run in still. Several of these Empress saloons with the 3 litre original engines I believe suffered gearbox problems and due to very low production numbers to keep them going a few have had engine / gearbox swaps. Apart from this most service spares etc are readily available.
I have had the car for 7 years but used it very little due to my children prefering open air proper 1920's vintage motoring!
Very sound structurally. Rebuilt radiator, Kenlowe fan fitted to help cope with modern traffic. Stops very well with hydraulic front vented front drums and mecahnical rear drums, these are as original. Runs and drives well, handling was transformed by fitting a full set of new Michelin X correct period radials, steering is light and surpisingly precise.
Seats etc original and in good condition, very comfortable ride especially luxurious in the back.
Always turns heads and attracts a lot of attention at shows and out and about.
Use and enjoy as she is, or gently improve.
