History:
According to the Continental dealer’s service policy document, serial # C56T3962 was originally delivered to Helen M. Delaittre from Cloverdale, California in 1957 with license plate LEJ 181. The car remained in California and the original owner’s manual has evidence of participation in nine Concours d’Elegance in the early seventies. In 1973, the car was sold to Charles Howard Kibler from Scottsdale Arizona. In 1987 the car was imported to Belgium and sold to the third owner who used the car very rarely until it was put in storage in the early nineties. After 30 years in storage, the car was recommissioned (new tires, brakes, fuel system, water pump, etc.) and is now a reliable driver with a fresh Belgian registration.
Condition.
The car has 55000 miles and is in very original condition (65 years old!) without any rust. The paint is mostly original with some slight yellowish discoloration on top (old age?). The stainless steel trim is also in very good condition with only some small scratches. The interior has a nice patina and is also completely original including the carpets. The front seat cushion has a tear along a seam that needs to be repaired, but on the whole the interior looks nice. Everything seems to be working fine except for the air conditioning system. The car drives and shifts smoothly. In the future the rubber front suspension bushings will need to be replaced (the rubber is crumbling) as well as the heater valves. The car has a non-original air filter housing and hubcaps, but all parts can be supplied by Mark II enterprises from California.
A Continental Mark II is a rare ultra-luxury coupé from the fifties and the most expensive American-produced automobile of the time.
