Here we have for sale this 1968 Land Rover® Series 2a, presented in popular Mid-Grey colour scheme with Limestone wheels.
Externally, there are lots of nice period features one would hope to see – the vintage numberplates, wing-top mounted mirrors, recent galvanised front bumper, bonnet mounted spare, rear grab handles and recent canvas, to name just a few items. The vehicle sits on a brand new set of our 750 wheels and tyres, which not only give a great look but improve gearing for a better cruising experience, as well as being self-cleaning. The bodywork is straighter than we usually see on this age of vehicle, which is good to see, and the bodywork is of a sprayed finish too. In our opinion, we think all of these things make this a fantastic Series 2a to look at.
The interior houses three standard front seats (with an adjustable drivers seat), along with deluxe matting to the footwells. Several of the items which denote a later Series 2a are still present – the steering wheel with the push button central horn, and the wipers with auto return instead of individual switched motors. There is an ‘Arctic’ uprated heater installed, with front demist vents, which will be very handy for those colder days. A deluxe carpet set is fitted to increase that premium feel and to give additional sound deadening. In the rear, there are a pair of twin benches fitted, along with a load mat to the floor to protect against scratches. This means seven occupants including the driver, making this a Land Rover® that the whole family can enjoy.
Out on the road, this Series 2a delivers a pleasing period drive – the petrol engine starts keenly and has a lovely exhaust note, and she stops as she should too. The free wheeling hubs aid economy and limit axle wear, and the 750 tyres give longer gears and a more relaxing cruise. We enjoyed many adoring waves and glances on our test route.
In summary, if you are looking for a petrol Series 2a that can carry all the family whilst benefitting from MOT & Tax Exemption, along with classic insurance, then this could be for you. Coupling that to the stunning Mid Grey colour scheme, this should be a Land Rover® which proves to be a solid investment for the future.
