A rare limited edition Elise Type 72 with just 16900 recorded miles.
The Type 72 was a 2002 limited edition celebrating probably the most recognisable and most successful Formula One car of all time. Raced for an incredible and unmatched six seasons, the Type 72 rewarded Team Lotus with three constructor’s championships and two drivers’ championships with a career that resulted in an astonishing twenty grand prix wins. For most of this time it was, of course, painted in the famous black and gold livery, recreated on this Elise limited edition.
Part of the Heritage Collection Series, unique features include metallic black paint, gold wheels, gold alcantara seat centres, steering wheel centre and door panels. Proudly displayed on each front wing are the gold victors’ laurels, reminiscent of those applied to the rear wing of the race car following each Formula One win. The gold laurels are also embroidered in to the head restraints and a dashboard mounted heritage plaque, in the style of the Formula One chassis plate, confirms its’ limited edition status.
This particular example was supplied by North West dealer, Lotus Ribble Valley who also provided it to its’ second owner in 2003. The vehicle was enjoyed sparingly until 2009 when an accident befell the owner, rendering him incapable of enjoying the car for a long while. PJ02 OOD was, therefore, placed in to storage and remained unused until liberated by me in 2021.
A programme of repair and replacement has been undertaken to restore the vehicle to its’ former tip-top condition. Mechanical work has included a major service including cambelt, renewal of the braking system, replacement of all fluids and a huge amount more. Cosmetically, the vehicle was preserved in an outstanding condition, in keeping with its’ remarkably low mileage.
Accompanying the vehicle is the original owners pack. There are a couple of service stamps, from 2002 and 2003 by Lotus Ribble Valley but, other than that, the next stamp was entered by my company earlier this year upon completion of the remedial works. The MOT certificate, with no advisories, is valid until April 2023. If you are looking for a full service history, this will not be the car for you.
In conclusion, a very low mileage example of a rare and very highly regarded limited edition Elise which is now awaiting its’ next caring owner to cherish it and to treat it to the open roads once more.
