1969 Citroen Ami 6 *** FULLY RESTORED*** For Sale
This Citroen Ami 6 saloon has been lovingly restored to a very high standard with excellent attention to detail. The Ami will provide an excellent everyday classic car or show car, which is economical and fun to drive. The Ami is a left hand drive French 1969 model which was imported from the south of France by in 2014 and comes with the English V5C registration document. The car is tax free and MOT exempt. The Ami was last MOTed in 2017 and during that time minimal mileage has been covered. The restoration was completed a couple of years ago. It has attended many Citroen events and has won various prizes within the Citroen Car Club and the 2cvGB Club. It was on show last November on the award winning NEC Classic Car Show 'Best Stand'. The Ami 6 was introduced in 1961 to fill the gap between the 2cv and the DS. It was updated in 1969 to form the Ami 8 until it was discontinued in 1979. Using the layout of the 2cv, with a 602cc air cooled engine it makes it easy to maintain, cheap to run and very practical with spares available. Many hours have been spent rebuilding the Ami sympathetically to a very high standard. I have rebuilt many classic Citroens (and other classic cars), the previous cars have gone to very satisfied classic cars lovers. I've enjoyed, and taken pride in rebuilding the Ami and it will give me further enjoyment to see it used, loved and cared for. I am sure this Ami will provide joy to the new owner, just like my Citroens have done for me over the past 30 years. This Ami 6 has the more powerful later M28 engine which is generally considered to be a better unit, easier to maintain with higher performance. The Ami 6 was the first A-Series Citroen to have the M28 engine which was introduced in 1968. Structure and Chassis The shell has been welded in places. All welding has been dressed and sealed. It has had underseal applied leaving a strong and protected structure. Oil has been injected into the sills and other cavities. It has an excellent, un-welded chassis, which has been internally oiled for protection. The panels have been stripped, rust treated, etched primed, 2 pack primed and four coats of 2 pack paint applied. The finish is excellent, very high gloss, durable and smooth. New quality fibre-glass rear wings were sourced from France and fitted. The original fibre-glass roof is in excellent condition with no cracks or bubbles. All the window channelling has been newly replaced on all the windows. All aluminium bright work is straight and highly polished. The rear bumper and rear 'Citroen' strip are new-old-stock and in excellent condition A new stainless Citroen locking filler cap is fitted. New-old-stock headlight surrounds have been fitted. There is an extra discreet middle brake light. Period Cipa French mirrors have been fitted which are in excellent condition. There is an automatic period reverse light. The number plates are in durable pressed aluminium. There will be a full tank of petrol when collected. Mechanics The Ami has 99k kms (62k miles) recorded mileage, this is reflected in the pre-restoration general condition of the car. The Ami has a new 123 electronic ignition system fitted, along with a new coil, new regulator, and new Bosch battery. The engine has been thoroughly cleaned with new engine mounts installed. The 9:1 ratio pistons and rings have been checked and cleaned. The valves have been cleaned and checked. The push rod seals are new. It has been fully serviced with new oil, oil filter air filter, spark plugs, with the timing and tappet gaps set. The clutch, back-plate and bearing are all new. A new engine breather kit has been fitted. Brakes, Exhaust and Suspension The brakes have been fully serviced with new front and rear brake shoes. It has a new master cylinder and four new wheel cylinders. The rubber brake hoses have been replaced. New brake oil has been added. There is a 3 piece stainless steel exhaust system. The suspension has been overhauled with the knife edges dismantled, cleaned and greased. New shock absorbers have been fitted to the front and rear. The suspension canisters have been oiled. Other The fuel piping has been replaced with quality unleaded petrol pipe, with a new fuel filter added. The track rod ends have been dismantled, cleaned and installed with new 'lifetime' gaiters. The track rod ends castle nuts are new, they are stainless steel and with an added grease nipple. All additional wiring is tidy. The oil cooler has been cleaned. All other mechanical parts have been cleaned, painted and checked, and replaced if needed. A period french Gradulux rear window adjustable blind is installed. There are two sets of keys, a user manual and a workshop manual, together with the V5C registration document and 2017 MOT document. Some historical documentation will be included. The tyres are new and have been fitted to reconditioned wheels with new wheel trims. A new chrome windscreen filler has been installed. The Cibie headlights are new-old-stock. New stainless steel wiper blades have been fitted. It comes with the original jack, wheel brace/ starter handle and wooden chock. The front wheel tracking has been set. All screws, nuts and bolts have been cleaned and waxoyled on re-assembly. Interior New carpet has been fitted in the front, back, and rear luggage space of the car. The rear luggage sides have been lined for protection. The sun visors have been re-covered matching the seat covers There is a pair of period Citroen front mats. A miniature Norev model car is located on the dashboard. The speedometer glass has had MPH speeds added. An unwired French vintage radio unit is located at the roof line A green flasher light and blue main beam lights have been added to the dashboard. There is a switched flashing light providing a visual security deterrent. Also installed is an earth breaker to stop the engine being started when engaged. A 12v socket is added for use with a Sat-Nav or phone charging. The seats have been reupholstered, and are in high quality cloth material in a 60s vintage style. The seat rubbers have been replaced where needed. New Securon front and rear 3 point automatic seat belts are fitted. Myself I have grown up with Amis with my father having one from new. I’m a classic Citroen enthusiast and have been in the 2CVGB for many years. I have rebuilt many Citroens in the past and won awards for them, and have owned Citroens for 30 years. I’m passionate about classic Citroens and get excited when I see one on the road, this is part of my motivation to restore these cars – to keep them on the road, and for people to enjoy driving and seeing them. General Information Parts are available in England or France via the internet. The road tax is zero, it has MOT exemption status, and the insurance is very low. The running costs are low with a high return of miles per gallon of normal unleaded petrol from its reliable air cooled 602cc flat twin engine. The value of Ami 6 saloons are continuing to rise both here and in France due to their rarity, so this will provide a sound investment
This is the For Sale details from when I bought the car in March 2019, this is a car I thought I would never sell, but I am now spending at least 8 months a year abroad, it is such a waste to be kept in a garage, last year the car was checked over by Peak 2CV where engine oil and filter gearbox oil were changed, and a few adjustments made, I have installed a Burton dry resin coil and iridium sparkplugs, . Tank filler neck boot and a few cosmetic touches,
