Description
For sale is a 1992 Buick Park Avenue Euro Spec model. The car is American but was adapted for use in Germany at the time of its inception. The car has had several owners over it's long long history, starting in Germany, being imported to the UK and now residing in NI. The car itself is in pretty good condition for its age, it runs well but needs a repair (detailed below).
Interior:
The interior does look suitable for the age, the car has leather seats where only the driver's side looks REALLY used and could do with a small DIY restoration, nothing major. Some interior panels need replacing such as the overhead reading light which the old one has come away. Seatbelts are still in good condition. The boot is also in good condition, all material is present including the spare tire and original jack.
Has dual climate control, heated windows, and seats move electronically (forward, back, up/ down and tilt)
Bodywork:
The paintwork has no bubbling rust or major fading. Chips, scratches and general wear and tear can be expected for the age of the car. Nothing major, some of the white paint lines are tarnished and some of the Buick emblems are faded and could do with a replacement for that extra good look.
The car did have some rust spots underneath, again to be expected for the age and for the number of locations the car has been to. These have been treated at a garage 3 years ago but could do with a full inspection and prevention in the next few years. Again, no major signs of bad rot.
No leaks in the car either.
Mechanical:
The engine bay in terms of looks definitely looks like a 30-year-old car. Grime/ grease/ flaked rust/ dust where you'd expect it, and well-aged parts. But works and sounds as it should. The automatic transmission must still have plenty of life as I've not had any issues or sounds from it in my ownership over the last 3 years. Same with the engine. (Apparently, these GM 3. 8 V6 engines were the bee's knees back in the day...)
Quirks:
Whoever owned the car previous never bought a belt long enough to use the AC accessory. So there is no AC in the car as the electrical wires have also been cut. I've found I've not needed the AC anyway in the UK. The cold fan option actually cools the car quite well anyway.
I've replaced the OEM radio with an aftermarket modern SONY stereo which I'm happy to include along with the adaptor needed to make it work.
Keyfobs don't work, need resoldering or something.
Things that need looking at:
The car runs and works fine, but in the last couple of weeks, the car starting misfiring, I've found that this is due to a faulty spark plug wire/ or coil, it's not an expensive fix/ part (easily sourced from RockAuto) Just shipping might bite a bit.
Also, one of the fuel injectors O-RINGs has failed so fuel leaks and spurts when the engine is running. Again, not an expensive fix. I've already had a look and the old o-ring simply has frayed whereas the other injector o-rings are intact and look good.
The negative battery terminal bolt has been stripped, but still possible to start the car with it. Just needs replacing with a similar-sized bolt.
That's pretty much IT in terms of things that need looking at immediately.
Things that I've repaired/ got repaired under my ownership:
I've sealed a couple of leaks into the boot/ sunroof. Haven't had a leak in 2 months. Tested with hose and plenty of rain.
Removed bodged unused AC wiring.
Replaced radiator to engine water hose as old one snapped because the nipple was made of plastic. New hose and metal nipple.
Replaced battery
Front pads/ discs
4 new tyres
Radio/ adaptor fitted
Cleaned a headlight out as it had moisture in it, none since.
Brake lines replaced, master cylinder replaced, brake booster and both rear drum cylinders replaced.
New exhaust (cheap quality exhaust so might not last many years, would recommend something custom for that extra V6 sound)
What's included with the car:
The car does come with 2 sets of keys.
Very comprehensive history in a folder with invoices/ ownership titles and imports dating all the way back to 1992.
A Haynes manual
The original car owners manual in the car (with lovely illustrations)
The original car workshop manual was bought and ordered directly from the states (big hefty books, 1 for general work and 1 work electrical work) They include step-by-step instructions with very clear illustrations of how to do every and any job on this specific car... Hayne's manual is useless compared to this bad boy, but I'll chuck it in any way.
Aftermarket stereo and adaptor already fitted, will give original radio with the car too.
Legalities:
Has MOT for the next 11 months.
Insurance with 2000 miles for this car costs me about £300 including roadside recovery.
Tax is about £360 per year but can't remember the exact figure as I write this.
Mileage is just over 130k km or should I say (Kileage :))
Summary:
I want to be as honest as possible on this ad, I'm not selling the car because there's a bigger repair issue or something. I've stated as honestly as I can what's currently wrong with it and I won't be trying to pull any wool over eyes. I just honestly can't be arsed anymore, I have the space to keep it on a drive, but I'd rather it be in someone's hands that will drive it and bring it glory. I just have other priorities at the moment. The car was running 100% fine until I decided to give the engine bay a clean and which point I must have got some moisture in the coil/ spark plug wire.
Unless I find an O-RING in time for viewing/ sale, the car won't really test driveable and it would need to be towed away or fixed on the spot/ taken away. Other than that the car is in sound condition for its age and if there are any questions/ concerns about it, please let me know by getting in touch.
I've tried to be as detailed as possible, but again, if you think I've missed something or you want more information as well as more specific photos, I'll happily provide them as soon as possible, get in touch.
