1964 BRABHAM - BT8 - Stirling Moss Team Car For Sale

The ex-Hugh Dibley Stirling Moss Automobile Racing Team Bradham BT8

Chassis no SC-2-64

One of only 12 examples built.

Powered by a potent 2. 5 Coventry Climax engine meticulously prepared by Crosthwaite and Gardiner.

The Brabham BT8 first debuted at the London Racing Car Show in January of 1964. There were only 12 examples built, this car being the second of which.

These race cars were built with 3 time F1 champion Jack Brabham’s legacy in mind, and as such they all bear a strong space frame and an elegant and streamlined body. Although these cars carried a much smaller engine than their competition, the BT8 was still able to dominate the competition, the most famous example of which being Denny Hulme’s win at the 1965 Tourist Trophy Race at Oulton Park. Hulme was able to best much larger cars, including the T70, Lotus 30, McLaren Oldsmobile, and Ferrari 250 LM.

This specific BT8 is powered by a 2. 5 liter Coventry Climax engine. It was purchased and raced by BOAC pilot H. P. K. Hugh Dibley for the Stirling Moss Automobile Racing Team. Dibley campaigned SC-2-64 throughout the 1964 season, running at Goodwood, Oulton Park, Aintree, and the Silverstone International Trophy. He scored five wins and four-lap records.

The BT8 was sold to Max Wilson, who raced the car at the BRSCC meeting at Castle Combe on April 23, 1966, where he came in second place behind the SC-2-64’s sister, the SC-4-64. The following month, Wilson and the BT8 went on to win first place at both the BRSCC Mallory Park and Brands Hatch.

Full ownership history is known with this fantastic BT8 steadily racing with owners in Canada, England, Australia and most recently the US.

Price is $160, 000. 00 US. Car is sold on a Bill of Sale but if road registration is a condition of a sale this can be arranged.
