…………….. SORRY, RESERVED FOR MARTIN……………
Now here’s a classic BMW Airhead that you don't see very often, and certainly not in this condition.
I guess that if you’re reading this, you’re familiar with this rather rare model, but if you’re not, it was introduced by BMW in the early to mid 1980’s as a lighter more sporting alternative to the usual large capacity touring BMW’s. Looking at the futuristic, angular styling, its no surprise that t was the brain child of the designer Hans Muth, famous for the legendary Suzuki Katana. Available in red or silver, there were a number of aspects of the bike that were unique to the model, including the fairing, seat, wheels, brakes, etc. Again, in line with the sporting nature, most of the standard R65’s chrome was replaced with satin black, including side panels, exhaust system, etc, very much echoing the Suzuki Katana. Producing around 50 BHP, in a lighter overall package, these are an absolute joy to ride. Electric start, twin discs, electronic ignition, etc, all make for an easy classic to live with.
This particular bike, after significant restoration, has been kept in a de humidified “bubble” for the last 13 or 14 years. The owner, who was down sizing his collection due to a house move, had cherished the bike, kept it on an optimate and started regularly. I’ll let the pictures do the talking on this one, but if you’d like any specific detail or a walk around video, please just shout.
