1982/ 83 The GPz750R1 is a very rare sight these days, having been produced only for the 1982 model year. The GPz represented a significant improvement over the Z750L1 and was notable for its striking 'Firecracker Red' paintwork and black chrome 4-2 exhaust system.
I'm old enough to recall when this was a current model, and if I'm not mistaken it held the crown, very briefly, for fastest 750, capable of running the standing quarter in just under 12 seconds. I also recall that the black chrome pipes suffered badly in our British weather, with the result that most of these bikes ended up wearing a 4-1 of some description.
Other than the absence of the bikini fairing, this machine is in incredible 'timewarp' condition, with original paint and decent original pipes... even after 40 years!
We imported this bike from South Africa last year as one of a handful of classics which we had intended to hold on to. Now reluctantly for sale due to lack of time and suitable dry storage, this is an opportunity to acquire an extremely rare machine - I wonder how many survive, particularly in such unmolested condition?
The bike had been stored for some time before we imported it, and it was started for the first time since then only a few days ago. We added fresh fuel and were able to start the bike easily.. it quickly settled to idle with the choke off. Clearly it will require a thorough service, new battery etc. but we have a video of its first start up - please contact us and we will be happy to share it.
Currently this bike is not UK registered; however it is supplied with the all-important 'NOVA letter' confirming payment of all import duties/ taxes and required by DVLA for registration. We also have the South African Title/ Registration, which indicates that the bike was first registered in 1983.
The speedo is in Kilometres and the odometer reading is just over 36, 000km. We have no way of establishing its accuracy.
