Beschreibung
We are pleased to offer this very smart Triumph Roadster finished in metallic gunmetal with contrasting burgundy interior; a colour combination which suits the car very well.
Being a 1949 car, the Triumph is a later TR20 2000 model which featured the more robust Standard Vanguard 2088cc engine, gearbox and back axle. The three speed gearbox was all- synchromesh.
The Triumph Roadster boasts a number of distinctive features notably three abreast seating on the bench seat, necessitating the use of a column change and the twin rear dickey seats with their own separate windscreen – the Roadster was the last British car to be made with a dickey seat.
Early post-war steel shortages meant that the body was built from aluminium, using rubber press tools that had been used making panels for the wood framed Mosquito bomber that had been built by Standard during the war. Indeed, the distinctive front wings are very reminiscent of Mosquito drop tanks.
This Triumph has been the subject of an extensive restoration and metallic gunmetal paintwork is of a high standard with the only fault some crazing on the filler cap lid. The upholstery, hood and carpets are all new and the interior woodwork has been sympathetically refinished The brightwork is all very good too.
A large history file accompanies the car and includes receipts, an RF60 continuation log book and photos taken during restoration. There is also an original handbook for an 1800 Roadster and a number of publications by the Triumph Roadster Club.
The car has some minor modifications from standard notably a full flow oil filter, oil cooler and a 123 Ignition programmable distributor. All of the original parts accompany the car.
Other spares include track rod ends, carburettors and kingpins/ bushes.
Under the bonnet everything is very well presented and the original tools are present too.
The car is a delight to drive with the torquey Vanguard motor, excellent ride and reassuringly effective Lockheed hydraulic brakes.
The semaphore trafficators are in working order but sensibly discreet indicators have been fitted.
With their distinctive styling and easy manners Triumph Roadsters have been in strong demand in recent years and this fine example is ready to enjoy.
We would consider taking an interesting classic vehicle in part exchange.
