Reluctant sale due to ill health of a very special Mercedes-Benz W123 230E.
The legend of the W123 needs no further introduction here, what matters is the provenance and condition of the vehicle offered for sale.
For the last 12 years this car has been cherished by a chartered automotive engineer with a particular passion for the marque. An original rust-free and low-mileage survivor, it was purchased from its second owner in 2010 with only 39, 000 miles accrued. It was sensitively recommissioned with a new fuel tank and the necessary perishable parts and has been in regular use since.
It has benefitted from over £20, 000 of investment, including a major refurbishment consisting of a glass out repaint in M-B 516 and many mechanical enhancements completed in 2018.
The specification includes a rare 5 speed manual gearbox, NOS factory limited slip differential and sump guard, SKF driveshafts, W126 ventilated front disc brakes, copper and braided brake lines, Bilstein HD dampers, twin Cibie headlamps, centre arm rest and 4 headrests.
The engine has just been reconditioned, with new timing gear, thermostat, distributor cap/ rotor, seals and gaskets, and the clutch, exhaust, alternator and battery are also new. The engine also benefits from hydraulic tappets, reducing the maintenance burden. Many other mechanical items are low mileage, including the radiator, hoses, auxiliary fan, suspension springs and bushes. The steel rims are recently powder coated. A set of snow tyres on rims is available by separate negotiation. Note that the MOT history mileages are explained by a speedometer change (with the spare speedo available).
The interior, exterior and mechanicals stand out as being flawless and in need of no remedial work; in fact, there is nothing whatsoever that lets down this W123. It has a £25, 000 agreed insurance value.
