Land Rover Series 1 109 Prototype Diesel.
VAC266 is the only known long wheel base prototype Diesel made.
It was built on an extended 07" Station Wagon Chassis and the first registered in October 1956 with the chassis number LR109/ 1.
This is a long time before the production run started in the summer of 1957 due to a number of engine issues. Although, none has found records to substantiate the following.
One of the previous owners of the vehicle is certain that VAC266was used for long distance testing of the diesel engine. During one trip it was so heavily loaded that the chassis broke and the repair can be seen to this day despite the chassis having been galvanised.
