MGB GT MK1 1968
Why MGB GT? If you are looking for a little Grand Tourer as a hobby car the MGB GT is perfect. While others like the Volvo P1800, BMW E9 and the Karmann Ghia today come with a big price tag. The early MGB GT MK1 like this is still very affordable. It has an 1800 cc engine producing 92 horse power mated with a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive. So even when you need to go out on the highway the MGB GT is not stressed at all cruising in 110km/ h. And the car only weighs 1100kg going out on a curvy country road will give you a lot of fun driving with that raspy exhaust note. You have a little foldable seat for the kids or actually a big nice loading space in the back.
Exterior: This MGB GT 1968 in tartan red has a very nice paint. Showing some very small traces of age. Repainted in 2007 and the body was in very good condition. Some of the chrome details where replaced at the same time and new front and rear lights where fitted. The original 14” wheels refurbished and are still in very good condition. Interior: There is nothing better than an old English car with an original leather interior. This was back in the day when they used proper leather. In new cars the colour on the leather is worn off in a couple of years. While this 54 years old leather interior still looks amazing. That black leather with the red piping is still nice and soft, and have just been treated with leather conditioner. All instruments are lovely and in fully working order. Underneath in the back the spare wheel, jack and tools. Classic radio.
Engine: The MGB GT engine looks and sounds very good. Just serviced and ready to go. All original in the engine compartment. Sport air filters, spin off oil filter and original stickers on the fan. So clean you can put your sandwich anywhere. Also fitted with a new wiring loom when restored back in 2007. The stainless steel exhaust gives this little MGB GT a nice sporty sound. Nice firm gearbox and good brakes. In other words, excellent mechanical condition.
History: BMC 1800 Grand Turismo was the name here in Sweden. It was sold new here on the third of July 1968. First owner had the MGB until 1979, the second owner until 1987, the third until 2008 and 2022 I bought it. Some photos from restoration and receipts of work done.
