Description
The most important car for the development of the export of the British car industry after World War II. The "Show Stopping" car of the "Showing the Flag Tour" in the US in 1947.
In 1947 the British government began to press car makers to export cars to improve the country's foreign exchange position. In response to this request, Rolls Royce decided to make an exhibition sales tour through the major cities of the US, a potentially very large market. Rolls Royce prepared 6 conservative cars plus this Bentley for the tour. The Bentley was the show stopping car painted in black and red with bright red leather. The tour started in October 1947 at the Waldorf Astoria.
In total 4 such cars have been produced by Gurney Nutting designed by one of the greatest British designer A. F. McNeil and supporter of Sir William Blatchley.
The last nut and bolt restoration was done in Switzerland over a time period of 3 years for a staggering amount of CHF 690'000. The car is in show condition.
