We are delighted to present for sale this early 1972 Land Rover® Series 3, finished in Deep Bronze Green, Hard Top configuration. Externally, there are many desirable features – the vintage numberplates, front spot lamps which are switched inside, larger defender style door mirrors for better visibility, bonnet mounted spare, towball and electrics and rear grab handles, to name a few. The vehicle sits on a set of 750 tyres, with matching bonnet spare, which give a strong stance. There is a “Cat Flap” back door (photo’d) which is the very first version of the now well known “split tailgate” which is so popular – this is useful for loading items quickly and it also locks to keep things secure – as well as a seat on a rainy day.
To the interior, there are three deluxe high back seats, giving superior comfort and safety over standard – useful for if you plan to carry children in the front. Deluxe matting is fitted to the footwells. There are a set of interior door pulls too. In the rear, there is a pair of twin bench seats, along with a rear mat to the floor area. Sliding side windows give a large amount of light in and means the cabin feels like a bright and airy place to be and gives a station wagon effect.
Out on the road, this Series 3 delivers a pleasing period drive – the larger tyres and free wheeling hubs give the best possible fuel economy in the standard format, whilst also reducing revs whilst in the cruise. The petrol engine pulls well and it stops as it should too.
