Description

E34 M5, 3. 6, 1991.
Very light project, needs a few small jobs (see below).
The car is also advertised on Ebay classic car section. A video of engine running can be seen there.

Ex South African car. Now fully UK registered. V5 in my name and address and correctly registered as a M5.
This is a genuine solid car and realistically priced.
The dry South African weather and unsalted roads have preserved this car well.
If you are familiar with BMW, s of this era you will know that they rust like crazy, well this one is very solid (other than small bits mentioned below).

Picture 11 is taken from BMW Fans site and shows the cars chassis number and details.
Car underneath is totally solid and rust free, i have removed the sill covers and i can see no rust and no signs of previous weld repairs to the floors, chassis rails or sills.
Bodywork is great and super straight (other than mentioned below).
Mileage is 343, 066 kilometers , which is 213, 171 miles.
MOT is valid until 19/ 4/ 23.
South African E34 M5, s had the advantage of being manufactured without catalytic converters (unlike Germany, UK, etc). Catalytic converters are only a legal UK requirement for vehicles produced after 1993.
Due to no cats the SA standard exhaust sounds far better than the cat exhaust.

Engine and car runs great, starts on the button even after weeks of sitting, no funny noises or smoke and runs at the perfect temperature.
I have spent approximately £3500 on recent new parts. All of these new parts have covered less than a 100 miles.
Was intending to keep the car, but another two projects are taking up my time.

The recent work carried out by myself,
Schrick 280 degrees inlet camshaft (pic. 12). Supplied by Classic MD, the UK, s top E34 M5 specialist.

The below paragraph is taken from BMW registry ( information),

How is the South African version of the E34 M5 cosmetically different from the German-built version?
The South African-built M5s are cosmetically identical to the European-spec cars. However, because their bodies were painted at the Rosslyn factory instead of at BMW AG in Germany, different paint selections were offered. In addition, the Nappa leather interior of the South African models is equipped with unique leather door panel inserts.
Due to this there is no paint code on SA cars (as far as i am aware). The original colour of my car was blue, but has been painted in a very slightly different shade which is also metallic.

Far from a perfect car but an excellent engine and virtually no rust.

Bad Bits,
Paint is good, but not great.
Last picture is of the only rust spots on the body.
Gearbox is notchy into reverse gear.
ABS light sometimes stays on.
No front fog lights.
Will need new tyres. I now have one spare wheel fitted due to a puncture on the rear.
Air conditioning compressor has been removed,(i have it but it is seized). The condenser and fan are still there and in good condition.

I am based in Sutton Coldfield, B74.
