Description
THE Wolseley 4/ 44 seems to be the favourite 1950s British saloon car of so many people. Classic looks (Police car looks too!) and highly usable.
This 1956 example is one of the most solid I have come across - and I have dozens over the decades. Has she ever been welded? Quite possibly not after a look around her. Her underside is amazing and every bit of every single floor pressing is clearly visible. I did not see any repair work. It's probably the best and cleanest underside I have seen on one of these Wolseleys! Body panels too are really good which, along with the condition of the interior, leads me to believe that this is almost certainly a highly original, un-restored example. The speedo reads 86, 000 miles which is highly sensible for a 66-year-old car, working out at around just 1, 300 miles per year. Headcloth is original, dash is superb and even that beautiful gigantic steering wheesl looks to be in the condition of a original car. Original carpets have just about had it, but again it all adds to the story. She did have a "garage ding" on the front corner of her offside front wing. That has now been knocked out from the inside and painted to an acceptable standard.
She drives ever so sweetly with a really quiet engine showing superb oil pressure. What's not to like. Especially when you look around the classic car marketplace these days and try and find a decent, solid, original and honest vehicle for under the 5k mark!
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 66-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace.
