1962 AJS 250; 14CSR
Time to reduce my collection.
This bike has been in the nether regions of my garage for over 20 years.
I bought it with the intention of replacing the standard rims with alloys and generally improving it. But with many other things grabbing my attention over the years it didn’t happen.
Since fitting a Lightweight Big end Assembly and Timing Side Axle Bush a number of years ago, it has probably covered no more than a hundred miles.
I had to register the bike with DVLA when I bought it back in 2001, so it’s on an age related plate. However, I do have certification from the AJS and Matchless Owners Club, confirming that the Frame and Engine are a Matching Pair. It is Registered as a Historic Vehicle, so no cost relating to Taxation and of course, MOT exempt.
As you can see, I’ve only used it for ‘Daytime Running’.
The engine is good and the Mega provides a great soundtrack but the gearbox could do with some attention as it needs holding into first gear. I believe the common cause is shim adjustment but again, I didn’t get round to it.
A Fun Bike.
