We are delighted to present for sale this 1964 Land Rover® Series 2a, presented in Masai Red with Hard Top roof, and modular style wheels and tyres. This vehicle was originally sold new to Eire, and was registered in the UK in 2003, and has had 3 keepers since.
Externally, the bodywork is finished in Masai Red, with Limestone roof and Modular Wheels and Tyres, with a knobbly tread profile. There are front and rear work lamps, both of which operate, which is handy for dark nights, reversing or illuminating outside jobs after dark. There are plenty of other period features – such as the rear grab handles, rear mud flaps, tow ball and towing hook, vintage number plates, original glass lensed lights and wing-top mounted mirrors. A new galvanised front bumper completes the look. In our opinion, we think that the culmination of all these items makes for a very striking truck – with the classic period features one would hope to see mixed with uprated items to give an enhanced look.
On the inside, there are three standard front seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. There is an immobiliser to deter thieves, and a stereo and speakers is fitted too. Other than this, the interior is largely standard – with the twin individual wiper motors still fitted (as per the earlier 2as) along with the three metal spoke steering wheel and hand throttle. A deluxe gearbox tunnel cover is fitted for a premium feel and to aid sound deadening. In the rear, there is a dog guard fitted (which can be removed on request) along with a single bench seat, affording seating for two, meaning this Series 2a can seat five people including the driver. An extra bench can be added at cost should seating want to be increased to seven occupants.
Out on the road, this Series 2a drives just as it should – the larger profile of tyre gives additional gearing, aided by the free wheeling hubs, which further aid the fuel economy and protect the axles from wear. In the sales pack, there is evidence of a large amount of restorative work being carried out – and this is evident on the road. These bills are dated April 2022 and included :
