The 300 CE-24 Cabriolet, another body style of the 124 series, was presented at the IAA in September 1991. The development of the convertible was based on the coupe. To ensure torsional rigidity, approximately 1, 000 parts have been revised or redesigned. In some cases load-bearing panels had to be made of high-quality material.
From late 1991, the Cabriolet was initially offered in Germany (and other continental European countries) exclusively with the 3-litre four-valve engine that had already been phased out in other models such as the 300 CE-24. However, in North America, Japan and the British Isles, the convertible came exclusively with the new 3. 2-litre engine in October 1992 as the 320 CE (in Japan and right-hand drive in the UK and Ireland) and 300 CE (in the US and Ireland) Canada) on the market. All three variants are only in 1993 and can be recognized by the chrome grille.
The aforementioned six-cylinder models were replaced worldwide by the E 320, while the Cabriolet was now (with the exception of North America and Japan) also available with four-cylinder engines for the first time, namely as the E 200 in Southern Europe (also available in Germany from 1994 ) and the E 220 in the remaining states.
The E-Class Convertible also came as a special model Final Edition (code 907) from October 1996 to July 1997, with black-brown burl wood in the standard version. Slate gray wood inlays of suitably stained maple wood (instead of the red-brown root wood used in all other E-Class convertibles) were available as special equipment (as previously in the E 500 model). The convertibles were only available with black leather interior (instead of the other leather colors that were also available until recently: beige or mushroom, brown or Brazilian, gray or blue). The package also included manual air conditioning, lowering and AMG alloy wheels. The special model was less individual in this respect, but cheaper (at the base price of DM 79, 925. 00 for the E 200, DM 88, 435. 00 for the E 220 and DM 114, 770. 00 for the E 320) than the vehicles with self until recently matching colors and similar extras were also available. A total of 1, 390 convertibles of the latest edition left the factory, including the E 200, E 220 and E 320.
The Mercedes presented here is only a 2nd owner car and has been in the possession of the last owner for a long time (from 100, 000 km). This man has always had the car maintained by Wensink Mercedes-Benz, which means that this car looks almost new. This rare convertible is equipped with a black leather interior with burr walnut. The technology of the car leaves nothing to be desired. It drives really great and the automatic gearbox also shifts very nicely. The maintenance booklets are also included. The black linen hood is also automatic and makes this car easy to use in winter. A very nice Mercedes convertible for relatively little money for the enthusiast.
