1977 MGB Roadster - Damask Red - Beautiful throughout SOLD

Many more pictures available via our website – RMC Classics Ltd - see the link above.

Rubber bumper MGBs are providing fantastic investment opportunity in current times, with prices continually rising. Being both Tax and MOT exempt, owning these cars is very affordable, along with cheap insurance – what’s not to like? This car is no exception, and I feel you’ll struggle to find a better one in this price bracket.

The car spent the first half of its life in California before being repatriated, and restored to a very high standard at the Tim Kelly MG Centre. Since then, the car has never been used in the winter and has had a great deal of money spent on it keeping it in excellent shape throughout by various marque specialists. I cannot stress how honest and straight this car is - it's the nicest Roadster we've had in our stock for a good while!

Recent works include:

• Fully rebuilt Ivor Searle engine with unleaded cylinder head
• Front suspension rebuild with new stub axles and trunnions
• Stainless steel exhaust
• New rear brake cylinders
• New battery
• …and much more!

As a matter of course, we have retuned and rebalanced the carburettors, adjusted the ignition timing and various other items. Of course, the car is now MOT exempt but you can see from the MOT history that the car has never had any major issues, and any advisory faults always rectified.

Bodily, the car is absolutely lovely. No, it’s not a concours car but presents very well indeed, and isn’t the usual botched-up mess. The car doesn’t appear to have been painted since the restoration and the finish is still beautiful, with barely any defects. The paint has an incredibly deep lustre and looks fantastic – the pictures don’t do it justice!

The panelwork is incredibly straight and solid, the doors shut with a satisfying ‘clunk’ and the panel gaps are very good indeed. The wing-top seams are nice and clean, and free from bubbling - as are the door bottoms, wheelarches etc – in fact, the spot welds can still be seen around the wheelarches, on the front lip of the bonnet, etc - I don’t think you will be disappointed if you come to view.

The car had new inner and outer sills fitted at the time of resoration, along with inner wheelarches, rear wings and front half-wings - all of which has been done to a very good standard and has stood the test of time! Chassis legs, castle sections, floors etc are all nice and solid and the car doesn’t seem to be hiding any nasty horrors, like so many of the cars on the market do. The underside is extremely clean and tidy, no thick underseal hiding nasty repairs here.

The interior is a lovely place to be, and is very clean and tidy. The seats are free from rips and tears, the seat foams are nice and firm, the carpets are in very nice order, as is the dashboard and centre console. The door cards are in very good order, too. Inertia-reel seatbelts have been fitted, along with a radio – everything functions as it should. The hood and folding frame is in very good order, it fits nice and taut with cloud-free windows – a very minor tear to the stitching on a rear extremity – easily repaired but causing no harm. The paint in the boot and engine bay looks almost as good as the finish on the outside of the car! The factory jack, bag etc are included, as well as a full tonneau cover in excellent condition.

The engine starts readily and runs nicely, ticking over smoothly and pulling strongly. Oil pressure is excellent cold and hot, and there are no overheating problems to report. A kenlowe aftermarket fan is fitted on thermostat control and keeps the car at exactly the correct temperature. The 4-synchro overdrive gearbox selects gears nicely, the overdrive engages without fuss and the rear axle is nice and quiet. You can see in the pictures that the engine bay is very clean and tidy and the car has no major oil or coolant leaks.

A great deal of paperwork is including, going back to the early 1990s and includes some of its American history. L lots of bills, receipts, MOTs and restoration related paperwork and photographs.

All in all, this is an absolutely charming little car that is ready to be used and enjoyed. You won’t find many cars at this price that are at this standard. I travel all over the country to view these cars and this one is particularly good for the money I’m asking. If you’re looking for a concourse car, please double your budget and look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a very nicely restored, usable car that has stood the test of time, then this is probably the car for you!
