Here I have for sale my lovely Yamaha RZV 500 R. This is the Japanese only model which I imported myself. People reading will know, it has a few upgrades from the UK spec, the main one being a handmade aluminium frame, so lighter. If buying an RD 500, this is the model to go for. I purchased it from a bike shop, with an incredibly low mileage of 2, 216km.

Due to the fact that it clearly hadn't been used for many years it was sold as a non-runner, no attempt was made to try and start it. I took the exhausts off, de-restricted them, and sent them away to be professionally ceramic coated. The carbs I sent away to be stripped and cleaned, re-jetted, so no longer restricted. The brakes were sent away to brakemasters, master cylinders also had the same treatment, new lines of course. The forks went to Philpotts, new hard chrome, so better than original, all new internals, and polished. New tyres and battery of course. New DID gold chain, with new sprockets.

Bodywork is all original, nothing has been done to that, and except for one or two tiny blemishes is superb. Then there is the engine. I phoned the expert, Stan Stephens, if you know anything about two strokes you will know all about Stan. I had decided the best course of action was to get him to do the engine for me, he didn't believe the mileage, but a strip down would soon reveal if it was correct. And sure enough, when he studied the internals he confirmed it was genuine mileage. Stan doesn't do things by half, so he did a complete rebuild, rebore, new pistons, new seals bearings etc, including new cranks. While he was there he did a stage 3 tune, and rebuilt the oil pump. I fitted the engine back in, then once I had new oil going through all the oil lines started her up, a quick heat cycle, then time to get to an expert, get her on a dyno to make sure the mixture ratio was correct. Spent the whole day, but time and money well spent. Carbs were tweaked many times, all jetting changed. At the end of the day we had fitted new gen Yamaha coils, new plugs and had some lovely graphs to look at. Time to take her out and run the new engine in., which I have done. As can be seen I managed to source a set of RD500 mirrors, which are a vast improvement over the originals, which of course I have and will go with the bike, also it has the full toolkit under the seat.

Unfortunately, now I have to sell, the new buyer will have in my opinion the finest example in the UK. Viewing welcomed and of course advised. I will upload better images shortly and take a video of the bike running.
