1972 FIAT 500L (RHD)

-Fantastic History File

The Fiat 500 is one of the most iconic cars in the world. A four-seat small city car that was affordable and desirable. Built from 1957 until 1975 it offered some different to the market. In 1968 Fiat released the L model and it remained on sale until 1972. Perhaps the most obvious new feature of the 500L were tubular guards protecting the front bumper and the corners of the rear bumpers. Other features included new badges, redesigned hubcaps, trim around the windscreen and rear window, black plastic steering wheel with metal spokes, black door cards, leatherette seats, and trapezoid instrument binnacle replacing the round one used on all other 500 models.

This is a genuine Fiat 500 L UK RHD example. Registered on 05/ 05/ 1972 and finished in Countrypolitan Yellow with the black interior. This is a low mileage example (66, 807) believed to be genuine, backed up by old MOT’s and paperwork. She drives super well boosting the upgraded 650cc engine and synchromesh gear box. Condition of the car is fair to good, however the paint work could do with cosmetic enhancement and a little attention underneath is required. In 2022 the chrome/ brightwork was replaced, bumpers, headlight trims etc. The car is very useable, parts, maintenance and paint costs are all very low on classic 500’s. She has a stunning history file, one of the best I have ever seen. This includes old logs books, with the pervious owner owning her for 11 years. 27 old MOT’s, 16 old tax disc’s, a massive pile of sundry invoices, maintenance costs and old restoration bills totalling circa £11, 028. She is an old restoration having been completed in 1996, this is detailed in history file.

To conclude if you have driven a standard Fiat 500 with the 500cc engine and standard non-synchromesh gear box, you would know. They feel slightly under powered and the gear box can be tricky at times. The upgraded 650cc engine and synchromesh gear box completely change the driving experience for the better. This is a rare RHD, low mileage, useable example and with the correct upgrades. She is in need of some cosmetic attention on the bodywork and underneath (welding), but has the correct DNA to carry out a restoration. Keenly priced to allow for this.
