1981 Aston Martin Lagonda Series 2 aka “The Wedge”
5. 3L V8 – chassis 13096 – home-market RHD example
First registered on 6th May 1981
Fresh MOT with NO advisories albeit Tax & MOT exempt, 84700 original miles.
Finished in Scarborough Blue with Dark blue Nuella leather interior.
Aston Martin’s Lagonda made a sensational debut at the 1976 Earl’s Court Motor Show and stunned the world with this avant-garde 4-door saloon.
An extremely rare and desirable motorcar, of which only 637 were produced, among which 1/ 3 in RHD form, and only ca. 400 are believed to have survived. Iconic of all the extravaganza of the Seventies and actually the car that saved Aston Martin from bankruptcy.
This example belongs to the first and purest iteration of this sensational model - designed by William Towns – a bold and timeless design that is at long last gaining global interest and recognition by collectors and aficionados alike. The values of these keep creeping up so that they are rock-solid - whilst usable - investments.
This example comes from a deceased estate and was owned by a Concours Judge of the Aston Martin Owners Club who acquired it in June 2017 and his high expectations (credit to him) led him to immediately embark upon a comprehensive recommissioning of the car with a no-expense spare philosophy in mind. The previous owner had owned the car for over 24 years.
The car went through the hands of well-known and reputable Aston Martin specialists (mainly Trinity Engineering and David Marks Garages) who each brought their expertise to bring this example to the level it is today.
The car presents really well with its stunning metallic blue paintwork, the interior is equally in great condition with a cabin being a very comfortable place to be with acres of Connolly leather, burr walnut woodwork, Wilton carpets fitted with Lambswool overrugs and the underbody is sound and tidy.
There is an extensive history file with this car covering invoices from the above and others (for over £40, 000) spent since 2017 (see below) and much more from previous ownership, all neatly sorted in luxury binders.
The handbook, service book, build sheets and toolkit are all present and the cherished number plate it bears today is also included in the asking price.
To sum up, a highly original, unmolested and well-sorted example that comes with a fresh MOT with no advisories, that is ready for its new custodian to enjoy and before you ask, yes all the electrics work including the dash… and the car starts first time with excellent oil pressure and great sound from its Tadek Marek’s designed V8 which are known to be pretty much bullet-proof.
If you have never owned/ driven one of these, this is your chance to own a timeless piece of British engineering and a very rare piece indeed (most are jealously kept in collections) and tick a major box in your life’s wish list – remember you only live once ! These are usually the centrepiece of any classic car show so if you were hoping to stay under the radar or are of the discreet type, perhaps this car is not for you ?
