Understood to be one of 125 vans ordered by the Post Office from Morris towards the end of the Second World War. This rarity is presented today in original livery, complete with a King George insignia!
The 10cwt ?Series Y? was announced following the end of its predecessor in 1939 however production didn?t really pick up until the end of the war in 1945. The example presented here is a 1944 (wartime) car which is understood to be one of a batch ordered by the Post Office. The history is largely untraceable however, in recent years, it did appear in a BBC drama ?Small Island? for which the Call Sheet is included amongst the paperwork.
The restoration in fairly recent years is acceptable but a little shabby around the edges giving the van a rustic feel. The interior (complete with parcels) is charming with one main seat and an assistant?s seat for those rare passengers for the postman! The interior is basic with no seatbelt or real accessories meaning it gives the impression of being an honestly restored vehicle with no hidden secrets.
It drives as well as you would expect a 4-cylinder, 1550cc Morris from this era would, driving through a 3-speed gear box also fitted with reverse.
The V5C is correct and present, along with a limited amount of historical paperwork and an operation manual.
A charming example which has proven to attract the attention of many visitors to our showroom! It isn?t perfect but is a quaint classic which would give any owner years of enjoyment.
