Rover 827 SLi – 1 Owner/ 300 miles – Unrepeatable
The Rover 800 series was an executive car developed in partnership during the Rover/ Honda alliance of the early 1980’s. The brief was to design an executive car fit for the American & European markets. Unfortunately, the Rover & Honda (Legend) engineer’s opinions differed in several areas and ultimately very few components were shared – another Rover missed opportunity.
The ‘end of the line’ late models with higher specifications, superb 2. 7 V6 engine and improved corrosion protection are acknowledged as best. Most SLi’s were automatic with luxury trim while the Vitesse was mainly manual with a sportier theme. Today good examples of either are extremely rare.
In 1990 Robert Tunnadine visited his local Rover Dealership – Gray Jones & Sons (Tywyn) Limited - and purchased a new Rover 827 SLi finished in Platinum Silver with grey/ wood interior and rare manual transmission.
Unfortunately, it appears that all did not go to plan. Mrs Tunnadine did not warm to the car and the Rover was placed under a dust sheet in a heated garage for the next 32 years.
Jamie and I (sadly) are still excited by exceptional cars and when we examined the Rover we immediately decided that this was a car we wanted to own and market through Milestone Classics.
The 827 is “Showroom Condition”. Underneath she still retains all the factory PDI chalk/ paint check marks, the ashtray has never been used and she simply looks right, sounds right and smells right.
The history file contains the full book pack including the original Austin Rover warranty/ AA cards, factory letters, unused first service letter, a copy of original V5 etc.
On the road the car drives without fault and all instruments operate perfectly right down to the digital warning on doors and slightly rudimentary computer system.
