In 2001, Mercedes-Benz introduced the new SL, known among enthusiasts as the R230 series. As an evolution of the R129, the newcomer was ready for the modern era in many ways. It transitioned from rectangular headlights to the peanut-shaped lighting that characterized Mercedes at that time. It also moved from a soft-top to a folding hard-top. Furthermore, this generation introduced numerous innovations, such as Keyless Entry & Go and Active Body Control, an active suspension system.

In terms of engine options, the new SL was also a clear successor to the R129, initially offering the SL 500 and SL 55 AMG, and later, less powerful as well as even more explosive versions. The car you see here is an SL 500, equipped with a smooth V8 engine producing 306 horsepower, making it a fantastic sports car. It combines luxury and comfort with a touch of classic character. The V8 is a traditional naturally aspirated engine without a turbo, which means it sounds fantastic and delivers impressive power.

This SL 500 was delivered new in the Netherlands in 2002. It features one of the most favourite and typical Mercedes-Benz colour combinations: silver-grey exterior with dark grey leather interior. The body is in an extremely fresh condition, very clean, with perfect panel gaps befitting a car of this class. The SL was essentially a showcase of what Mercedes-Benz was capable of, and that is undoubtedly best described as being impressive. Keep in mind that you are looking at a car that is over twenty years old. All the associated parts, including the lighting, wheels, rubber, and other details, show that this car has not had a strenuous life. The clock on this 5-litre engine is only showing a mere 73, 840 km!

The interior reflects the low mileage as well. The original upholstery is in fantastic condition, as is everything you see around you when you take a seat in one of the wonderfully comfortable chairs. In addition to the various shades of grey and black, the beautiful wooden centre console and other areas with similar finishes add a stylish and colourful touch. Very elegant.

Under the hood, you’ll find the aforementioned 5-litre V8. It may not have the brute force of the SL 55 AMG, but it offers unparalleled smoothness. There’s more than enough power throughout the range, yet it remains far from nervous or dominantly present. It is also a reliable engine that will provide endless enjoyment. The previous owner cherished this car and wanted it to remain in perfect condition, as evidenced by the stack of invoices from a brand dealer. For example, the electro-hydraulic suspension was recently fully serviced, and the car underwent major maintenance. It’s a well-maintained specimen.

In addition to the invoices, all the original books come with the car, housed in the original leather wallet. It’s a beautiful classic in the making, which is also particularly suitable for business use.
