This Panhard CD is a rare 'Rally' version, which differed from the 'Touring' model in that it had a more powerful engine powered by two twin-barrel carburettors. Barely sixty of the 160 units that left the Charles Deutz workshops in Champigny were produced. Originally white in colour, it was bought new on 3 July 1964 by a Mr de Clavel in Frankfurt. It was then traced to the Ardennes, where it was registered under licence number 745 KZ 08. Then, in 1994, the grandfather of the current owner, Jean-Paul Petit, bought the car from Mr Maitrehut, a local garage owner. Well-known and invested in the Panhard community, he then set about restoring the car from top to bottom. The body was completely dismantled and rebuilt, before receiving a new coat of blue paint at the Hiegel Garage in Reims. Several photos demonstrate the extent of the work. The mechanics and running gear were also rebuilt, and it was only more recently that the upholstery was refurbished in leather by Sellerie Rémoise. The engine, the nameplate of which states "factory exchange" and MS type, still has its two original specific carburettors. Regularly maintained by Christian Marquis, the beautiful CD received new tyres in 2019, shortly prior to which the clutch was overhauled. Combining breathtaking looks, enviable roadworthiness, and the rarity and performance of the 'Rally' version, this CD is a rare opportunity that is sure to attract the attention of connoisseurs.
