This is a fantastic little 1978 Clubman Estate that has only covered 53, 000 miles from new and was fully restored in 2019/ 20. Last year I took it on a fantastic European road trip to the international mini meeting near Florence in Italy. We covered nearly 3000 miles and 10 countries, over the alps twice and the little estate did not miss a beat. I didn't even have to put a drop of coolant in it once, it was absolutely brilliant!
It was found in a slightly sorry state by the previous owner after sitting off the road since the 80's. He fully rebuilt it and has done an excellent job, it was just recently featured in the miniworld magazine. The body was restored with a full new front end all with heritage panels and any other rust cut out and replaced. The original front subframe stripped and saved, rear subframe replaced, new stainless steel fuel tank. All new suspension cones, new brake system etc. Originally it started life as an automatic so a low mileage, high compression A+ 998 engine and manual gearbox was used. That was refreshed with a new clutch, water pump, radiator, oil pump etc. The gearbox has a slightly higher ratio diff fitted meaning that it is more comfortable at higher speeds of modern traffic, it cruises happily at 65mph.
The dark brown interior was all carefully cleaned and saved and is in truly remarkable condition. The seats were stripped and fitted with new foams and the velour covers cleaned and refitted. All the original carpets remain and are being protected by a nice set of fitted brown mats. It even still has the original brown mat in the boot area with the original little fitting clips!
This really is a great little clubman estate that is totally ready to use and enjoy, it gets loads of attention wherever I go. I believe you will struggle to find a much better, more original example than this.
