The first-year production 1959 Mini is considered the most collectible of the classic Mini and for good reason. Nearly 20, 000 cars were produced in 1959 and the little family car began to take the world by storm. Early cars featured a single skin floor, tactile chunky door hinges, sliding front windows and even a push button starter on the floor. The ‘59 Mini club is a niche club of which many wish to be a part.
This example, manufactured November 18th 1959, is a local car that has enjoyed many weekends attending local car shows and classic car tours. It was initially sold to a Mrs Edith Temple by Caffyns. It was then owned by the lady’s niece, Lady Kilner. The car was due to be scrapped in 1984 by a student and ended up at Jack Jones Motors of Ross-on-Wye with a recorded mileage of 20, 735 miles, but the current owner rescued it before it ended up on the scrap heap and in the following four decades proceeded to painstakingly restore it. The aim was to have a car that was solid and reliable whilst keeping the car as original as possible. The 24, 000 miles is thought to be original; on the certificate from the ’59 Mini Register, it confirms the mileage at the time of going for scrap.
The RD4 Cherry Red paintwork is in really good order, accented by brilliantly bright chrome work. The hub caps are equally shiny, but the steel wheels could benefit from a repaint. The underside is solid with what look to be the original sills still in place. The interior looks to be mostly original with some wear to the red carpet, the front seats have previously been re-stuffed. The engine starts from cold with ease and runs extremely smoothly and quietly, with the owner reporting a comfortable and reliable drive. The only changes that the owner has made from factory are the fitting of Cooper S disc conversion, but the original brakes are included in the sale.
The sale includes a large amount of documentation including a current V5C, a heritage certificate, 59 Mini Club registration, documented history from the 59 Mini Register, as well as a large number of receipts. The seller has also included a number of spares with the sale such as two boot lids and three spare wheels.

Vehicles that are un-registered or on foreign plates may require Import Duty and Vat to be paid upon purchase via HMRC prior to registering with the DVLA for a UK plate, if you are not sure please ask. For classic cars over 30 years this equates to 5% Duty on the final value. For cars described as MOT exempt (pre-1983) these vehicles may need their exemption registered with the DVLA.
