We are very pleased to offer a fantastic and very original 1969 Austin Mini Cooper MK2. Finished in Island blue with a Snowberry white roof, this matching numbers Cooper will offer its lucky new owner the chance to enjoy the spirit of 1960's motoring in a genuine example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. This is not a fully restored trailer queen. this is a drivers car which is what these amazing machines were designed to do. Registered new by Lookers of Manchester in August 1969, since then this Cooper has been well cared for by just four owners which is quite remarkable giving its 54 year vintage, it has its original FE numbers both on the inner wing and drivers floor pan, front panel factory tag and its original commission number. All of the glass is etched with the registration number. It is accompanied with a history folder that includes a heritage certificate, a list of previous keepers including a vehicle timeline and a feature in Cooper world magazine in 2015. It has been known by the Cooper register for over thirty years and has been to many shows over the years. It has excellent provenance which is a very important factor in owning one of these Cars. I have always been a big fan of MK2 Minis as they have always been a nice alternative to the MK1 and are very rare as they were only produced for 18 months.
On the road this Cooper drives very well indeed, its careful ownership and regular maintenance has served it well. It has the feel of a Mini that can be driven anywhere. The original 998 engine is very smooth with a progressive power delivery right through the rev range, performance is brisk through the twin carbs and the gearbox is excellent, taught and precise. It holds a constant strong oil pressure and will easily keep up with modern traffic and a little bit more!. It rides very well on its original Hydrolastic suspension offering focussed handling yet being comfortable and being a Cooper it has disc brakes which are more than capable. What you will do is get fully immersed in the unique sixties Cooper driving experience and do what I do, keep driving.
The interior is very original throughout and remains as it left the factory except for a replacement Newton Commercial carpet set. It has its original seats, roof liner, door cards and switch gear. The all important three clock binnacle is present and correct with the 100 MPH speedo and original steering wheel, this is all you will really need.
This Cooper has a very solid shell, it has body coloured floor pans, solid boot floor with boot board and brackets, the correct fluted sills and solid subframes. This is very much a survivor Mini that has never been stripped and restored, it has been repaired where necessary over the years and wears its heart on its sleeve. The paintwork is in keeping with its vintage and has plenty of patina, it certainly gets lots of admiration as there are very few Coopers left in this unrestored and not perfect condition. It requires nothing apart from driving and it certainly does not need to be changed, just enjoyed.
We have fully serviced, checked and driven this Cooper and it will be supplied with a full MOT and it is also MOT and Tax exempt.
