Here we have for sale this early Series 2 Land Rover®, in the popular Deep Bronze Green colour scheme, with Limestone Wheels. This vehicle is presented in Station Wagon configuration – with safari roof, alpine lights and sliding side windows with roof vents.
Externally, this has all the features one would hope to see – vintage number plates, bonnet mounted spare, rear grab handles, rear step for passengers, rear towbar to allow towing, wing top mounted mirrors, etc. It is nice to note that the original galvanised cappings have not been refinished or painted, as many have at this age. A set of road-biased tyres are fitted for the best compromise between on and off road abilities. In our opinion, we think this creates a very handsome vehicle… the kind one might remember seeing on a match box car or dinky toy!
On the inside is where this Series 2 really shines though, with three front elephant hide seats – a very expensive optional extra – with deluxe matting to the footwells. The features of an early Series 2 are still present – with the “banjo” 3 spoke steering wheel and individual wiper motors. The rear houses twin benches, again in the elephant hide style, meaning seating for seven including the driver. The rear door also has a deluxe elephant hide door card, which is a nice touch. The benefit of the station wagon roof is enormous – roof vents mean additional cooling in hot weather, and sliding side windows with alpine lights mean a light and airy feel for all passengers when driving, including much better visibility for the driver.
Out on the road, the original classic look means many admiring glances when out on the road, and an enjoyable experience for those in the car, too. The petrol engine drives just as it should, and it stops well too. It provides a pleasing period drive which is aided by the road biased tyres for a better driving experience.
In summary, if you are looking for a Classic Land Rover® which can carry the whole family in vintage cool, then this could be for you. With the vintage looks and deluxe interior, not only does it look great – but with classic insurance and MOT & Tax Exemption, it is sure to be cost effective to own in the long term.
