Descrição
Just as we like to find them, a very appealing project for restoration, having been stored for over thirty years – last used in 1990. The car is very handsome in design, with 'trouser crease' sleek cutaway wings, louvred bonnet and scuttle, and other nice touches. It is apparent that the car has not been in the best of storage conditions, and is rather suffering from mould and mildew, as you see from the photos, and will need a great deal of attention, but nevertheless will be a rewarding project. It is complete and correct to the extent that it still has large tools in their correct clips in the engine compartment, and about a dozen original small tools in the fitted tray which drops down from the boot lid. This is a rare opportunity, and in our experience, finds such as this are turning up far less frequently than was once the case. The engine is free, turning over nicely, and we hope to have it running in the near future. As well as a current V5C registration document, the car comes with the original buff logbook from 1934, as well as two continuation books – very unusual. Just as found, not even cleaned!
Chassis No. GRC36 Reg No. AYR 190
Snippets: Sweetie Buchanan & a Double Chambers
The first owner of GRC36 was Mathew Turnbull “Sweetie” Buchanan whose nickname stems from the fact that the family firm of John Buchanan & Bros (est 1856) produced sweets & confectionery. In 1905 Sweetie Buchanan was involved in divorce proceedings when his wife ran off with a family friend (and Manchester Jeweller) Charles W. Botsford the judge awarded the sum of £2, 000 in damages to Sweetie Buchanan! The 3rd owner of GRC36 was Basil Chambers whose marriage in 1925 was to a Miss Violet May (Peggy)..... Chambers!! That must have confused everyone involved but at least there would have been no need to alter any embroidered bedding! The last long term owner had a very unusual hobby of collecting woodworking in particular hand planes which numbered several hundred when the items were placed for auction.
