Well known in German AMOC circles

Not all Aston Martin customers found the V8 Vantage Volante's aggressive the new look to their liking, preferring the more restrained appearance of the earlier non-Vantage model. Foremost among them was HRH The Prince of Wales, who ordered his Volante with Vantage engine and bonnet but otherwise effectively to standard specification. For many the jewel in the Aston crown, the Vantage Volante to 'Prince of Wales' specification was produced for only two years from 1988, drawing uniquely from the best of the Volante and Vantage features. The factory went on to build 26 examples of the 'Prince of Wales' specification Vantage Volante before V8 production finally ceased in December 1989.

Left-hand drive chassis number '15768' was manufactured as a Vantage Volante in September 1989 and first registered to a Mr Lewis Bramley. The following year, in July, the Aston was purchased by Mr Hans Nystrom, Evidently Mr Nystrom thought his Volante could do with more power, so in 1991 he despatched the car to Aston Martin Lagonda in Newport Pagnell for conversion to the full 6. 3-litre Vantage Volante 'PoW' specification and from automatic to manual transmission. At the same time the colour scheme was changed to the present white with blue interior.

Aston Martin Lagonda's detailed 17-page invoice showing the scale of the work and totalling 58, 222, equivalent to around 128, 000 today, is on file (inspection recommended). The invoice is addressed to Bel Air SA in Malaga, Spain, presumably a company with which Mr Nystrom had connections or perhaps was the owner of. Mr Nystrom used the Volante in Spain, and then in January 1994 the car was titled to him in Palm Beach, Florida, USA (copy title on file).

In July 1996 the Volante was purchased by Mr Udo Greitmann and shipped to Germany. Mr Greitmann kept the car for some five years before selling it to Roman Tabisch of Coburg, Germany in 2001. Mr Tabisch was employed as a hotel manager in the UK and took the Aston there with him. In June 2004 marque specialists Trinity Engineering carried out further refurbishment at a cost of 3, 857 (detailed bill on file).

The current vendor, a keen Aston Martin enthusiast, purchased the Volante on 23rd March 2006 at 48, 000 kilometres (it is assumed that the speedometer was changed from an MPH to km/ h unit during the aforementioned conversion). Our vendor drove the car for that summer and then decided to have a cosmetic restoration carried out over the winter, as he intended to keep it in his collection for a long time. Essentially, the car was stripped of paint down to the bare aluminium and then repainted in the traditional process: several coats of light grey primer, sanded down again and again, followed by several coats of original white to achieve the optimum depth of paint. In addition, the plastic-vinyl convertible hood was replaced with a textile one. This work was coordinated and carried out by a well-known Aston Martin workshop foreman in Hamburg (invoice available). Subsequently, he carried out the inspection and 'MoT' every two years.

Since the end of 2013 the Volante has been cared for by Aston Service, Hamburg where it has been technically checked and maintained. At the beginning of 2014, a precautionary engine check was also carried out, although it had always started and runs perfectly; indeed, the vendor says that the car has never let me down. This Volante is well known within the AMOC's German section, attending many meetings nationwide. The vendor has also driven the Aston on rallies from time to time, including the Hamburg-Berlin and Bavaria Klassik, hence the presence of the Trip-Master. He hopes that the Volante brings its next owner as much pleasure as it has brought him.
