This motorcycle is to be auctioned at The Autumn Stafford Sale - The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show
BSA's Gold Stars continued as the BB models after the new swinging-arm frame was introduced in 1953, changing to CB designation for 1954. This change marked the introduction of the classic big fin engine but the 'CB' designation lasted only until the arrival of the DB series in the autumn of 1955. The DB incorporated a much improved lubrication system and, in the case of the 350 only, a stronger cylinder assembly; as such it represented the Junior Goldie in its final form, there being no 350 equivalent of the final DBD version. This interesting Gold Star 'Clubman' special has been built up from a nice collection of parts. Notable features include belt primary drive; central oil tank; alloy wheel rims; Amal GP carburettor; 190mm front brake; alloy fuel tank; clip-on 'bars; rear-set footrests; Smiths instruments; and a Lucas racing magneto (it should be noted that the 'RR 2T' stamping to the gearbox is not factory). The machine comes with photographic copies of correspondence and bills (the originals having been misplaced), including some for a complete engine rebuild carried out in 2000 by marque specialist Len Haggis. Displayed in a private museum, the machine will require recommissioning before further use.
