Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. 750 Security Tyres. Free Wheeling Hubs. Recent Bumper. Recent Standard Seats. Recent Canvas. Front Lamp Guards. Tow Bar and Electrics. Spare Set of Keys. MOT history back to 1989 ? meaning we are able to confirm the mileage as genuine ? 118, 701 miles to date. Deluxe Interior.
Here we have for sale a late and rare to see Series 2a Crossover Model, finished in the Limestone Colour Scheme, with Limestone wheels and Sand Canvas. These late Series 2s had their lights moved to the wings as opposed to the grill ? in preparation of the upcoming Series 3 model which would be produced in 1971- whilst retaining the ?hard? interior dashboard, with central clocks and key in the centre.
Externally, this has many of the features one would hope to see ? the metal ?maltese? grill as per a crossover 2a, front lamp guards, recent sand canvas, vintage number plates, rear grab handles, tow bar and electrics to allow towing, larger defender-style mirrors to improve visibility whilst driving, etc etc. A set of 750 security tyres give a strong stance and a recent galvanised front bumper completes the look. We think the photos speak for themselves here, with this truck having had a previous refurbishment, to a good standard.
On the inside, there are three standard front seats, all with static belts, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. An interior black trim set has been fitted to aid sound deadening and give a more premium feel. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat to the floor to protect against dirt and scratches and a pair of tailgate chain covers, to stop these giving off an annoying rattle noise when driving along ? very much a standard affair, and very much what we like to see.
Out on the road, not only does the optional and rarely seen colour scheme really stand out ? but the low mileage from new of 118, 700 (equating to just 2150 a year since new) means a really pleasing period drive ? the petrol engine pulls well to speed, aided by free wheeling hubs for superior fuel economy, and larger than standard tyres giving more gearing and a more relaxing cruise. It gives about the best drive that is realistically achievable from the original period set up. It is exceptionally rare for us to find any Series where the mileage can be confirmed ? often the MOT history does not go back before 2005 (when such history was finally computerised), and so it is almost impossible to say with any accuracy what the true mileage is other than the recent history- however the MOT history on HHW stretches back to 1989 ? where we can see the mileage was 99, 000 ? meaning this Series has been around the clock to 18, 701 today?.. so 118, 701 miles recorded. For those customers who really want the assurance of how far a vehicle has been and value this provenance? we may only get a vehicle or two like this every few years at best ? and it is a hugely attractive prospect for future value, too.
In summary then, if you are looking for a period-enhanced Series 2a Land Rover® with a good history of receipts and MOTs, an improved drive and a largely stock feel otherwise? then this could be for you. With that rare to see colour scheme, chunky tyres, recent refurbishment and MOT & Tax Exemption (along with Classic Insurance) ? it is difficult to think how to make HHW a more appealing prospect for the new owner!
