We are very proud to have for sale quite probably the most original TZ500J available for sale. Last of the line 1982 2 Stroke Factory built production Grand Prix 500cc race bike based on Kenny Robert?s Grand Prix Winner.

Just looking at the bold no #1 on the yellow background makes you realize just how iconic these Yamaha 500cc GP Bikes have become.
Hailed by many as the golden era of GP racing these 2 stroke racers have become legendary, most recently coveted on the Netflix documentary series ?The Unrideables?.

Built in very limited numbers replacing the TZ750 to qualify for the then new Grand Prix World 500cc Series. This 500cc Yamaha was the last in line 4 cylinder 2 stroke race bike built for non factory race teams to compete in the GP World Championship. These machines were purchased direct from Yamahas Racing Department by privateer race teams and were the last production GP racers ever built by Yamaha. These teams included Barry Sheene whom kept one of these examples in 2nd place in the 1982 series until Silverstone where he changed to the new V4 engine where unfortunately Barry sustained another life threatening accident causing the end of his racing career and the TZ500 was retired from production to enable Yamaha to focus on the factory V4.

Our example must be the best preserved TZ500 available throughout the world today and is a true icon of Yamahas Grand Prix history and it is incredibly rare to find one like this in original configuration with the full mechanical YPVS power valve system functioning perfectly today as it did in 1982.

The bike has been kept in private collections where it has been kept on display to admire only. The engine has been started/ used for preservation purposes however any brave soul intending to race it at historic events or exhibitions are advised that this is a 100% original motorcycle of extreme importance and unobtainable in these conditions. The TZ is preserved in its original beautiful condition, still on its original wheels and original crate tires. It is displayed on its factory paddock stand. it has its original factory paint and has never seen a race track.
