Rover RV8 – R380 Gearbox/ Stunning Car
The success of the Mazda MX-5 prompted Rover to re-enter the sports roadster market with the RV8 in 1992. The 3. 9 litre V8 delivered 185BHP to the rear wheels through a five-speed gearbox giving impressive performance – 0 to 60mph in under six seconds and a top speed of around 135mph.
Production was limited to approximately fifteen cars a week (the price tag was in excess of £26k) and under 2, 000 were manufactured making the RV8 a rare sight on British roads.
Jamie and I really like the RV8 – they are superb cars – and were therefore delighted when this excellent example appeared on the Milestone Classics radar from a fastidious enthusiast looking to sell his car.
Our late RV8 (build date 12th April 1994) was initially exported to Japan and briefly returned to the UK in 2005. The car was MOT’ed & registered before finding a new home with an enthusiast in Limonest, France and returned to the UK via Jersey during the summer of 2015.
Since 2015 the owner has maintained the car to an extremely high standard and used her for various road trips with friends and the MG Owners Club.
When the RV8 came into Milestones she was in fine fettle – as you would expect – and we decided the car simply needed to look as good as she drove.
Jamie & Paul fitted new wood-veneer dashboard & door cappings, a new mohair hood and machine polished the Woodcote Green paint. In addition, the interior seats/ carpets and alloy wheels have been deep cleaned & polished.
The result is one of the sharpest, most original (right down to the Japanese road flare) and best driving RV8’s that you could wish to own. The history file goes back to when the car returned to the UK in 2005 and includes National Type Approval Certificate, Bill of Sale from Jersey, V5, lots of invoices from France & UK, MOT’s etc.
Historically the RV8 has been undervalued by the market but prices have risen sharply over the past two years. This example benefits from good provenance and is one of the best you could wish to own.
We recommend early viewing and a test drive in order to fully appreciate this lovely modern classic
