The 126 Mercedes is the most successful, best-selling and longest-produced S-Class ever built. It is considered by many to be the 'finest Mercedes' because it was built with near-modern manufacturing technology, but its designers still had a cloak-and-dagger, conservative engineering approach. Like the 190 Mercedes, its development was characterised by "over engineering", with 6 years of development from 1973 to 1979, often in wind tunnels and crash tests, which resulted in, among other things, the best Cw rating and safest bodywork of its time, but also in the fact that it can run over 1 million kilometres without any major failure and, thanks to the many new technical solutions (ABS airbags, electric seats, etc.), it is fully in tune with today's traffic conditions and expectations.
The 126 S Merci (S=Sonderclasse) was produced with standard and extended bodywork, the extended versions are now very rare and therefore much more valuable.
The car offered for sale is a particularly unique example as it is a 560, so it is also the long version with the largest engine, and it is not an American model, but a European one!
