The Ghibli design by Giugiaro at Ghia was masterful. This stylish model, presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1966, was the ultimate development of the front-engined V8 Maserati, allowing the marque to take a well-earned place in the market for Grand Touring cars. This was helped by the magnificent four-cam engine designed by Giulio Alfieri, powerful and robust, that was capable, in the 4. 9-litre version of powering the Ghibli to a top speed of 270 km/ h. Cars capable of such speeds were rare at that time. A pre-oil crisis baby that appeared before the widespread introduction of speed limits, the Ghibli represents carefree times when one could boast without embarrassment of high "average speeds" on the open road.
The car on display was delivered new in Italy to a certain Giuseppe Fiozito from Padua. According to a copy of the Italian ACI certificate, he kept it for ten years before selling it to Bruno Chiaro of Vigonovo. This beautiful and highly original Ghibli later joined the collection better known as 'Duemila ruote', sold in 2017 by RM. It was sold to a dealer in Marseille, who entrusted it to his mechanic for a complete overhaul. Acquired from the latter by the current owner, the grandson of a great collector from Roanne, the car is superb and runs very well. It is superb in its original state, with a black leather interior with a very slight patina and that wonderful original perfume. The Ghibli in this second and final version with power steering and a more powerful engine is a real treat and an exciting GT to drive.
