Just 524 right-hand-drive examples of the E24 M635 CSI were built between 1985 and 1989, and even today the M635 CSI offers an unrivalled blend of exclusivity, build quality, practicality and effortless continent crossing performance.
The touring capability of these superb coupes still impresses today. An excellently appointed cabin, with the trademark 70’ & 80’s BMW ‘acres of glass’ for first rate vision, a lavish array of creature comforts such as full leather, sports seats, air conditioning, sunroof, on-board computer and of course, four ‘proper’ seats and a cavernous boot all add to the practicality. The much-revered M88 3. 5 litre, 24-valve engine delivers the excitement that BMW had demonstrated with the M1, with an impressive yet deployable 286bhp.
This sporting thoroughbred will sprint to sixty in six seconds and, in an awesome display of torque, pulls smoothly, increasing rapidly from 25mph to 158mph in fifth gear. Overtaking ability is equally impressive with 30-70mph taking a mere 5. 5 seconds. A Getrag sport gearbox, limited slip differential, Bilstein gas-filled dampers, Motorsport springs, larger diameter roll bars, larger wheels and bigger ventilated discs with M1-spec 4-pot calipers are all testimony to a proud racing heritage, and the bespoke nature of this Garching product.
Still rated by journalists to this day as the finest and last true hand built, BMW Motorsport, competition bred, GT Supercar. The M635 must surely rank as the ultimate 80s GT car. A blend of classic GT styling, blindingly quick, satisfying on the twisty bits and effortlessly refined as a motorway mile-eater while being just at home pottering down to the greengrocers .
A rather fun and fascinating bit of motorsport history bestows this low mileage M635 CSI. Originally ordered and delivered to Brian Hart of Brian Hart Ltd, whose race car engine building company prepared BDA engines for Ford, Formula 2 engines that took the likes of Ronnie Peterson, Mike Hailwood and Dereck Warrick to success in Formula 2. A move to Formula 1 saw Hart engines supplied to Toleman, Arrows, Footwork and Jordan.
This M635 CSI has been well known to us since 2005 when we brokered the sale from the second owner (having covered a mere 9, 200miles under its first custodian) to the current third owner. We then carried out its first age related program of workshop work -including fitting the now very rare 17” Alpina wheels. Due to an ever growing and changing collection of cars, we have been entrusted once again to find a new home for this extremely low mileage, unrestored and historic M635 CSI.

As usual the car has passed through the workshop for a detailed inspection and the following work will be carried out prior to handover to the lucky new owner to ensure both routine and preventive maintenance are 100% up to date.
Carry out Inspection II service
Change brake fluid and coolant
Replace all under bonnet fuel hoses
Replace all coolant and heater hoses
Replace Rear fuel hoses
Replace fuel pump
Replace all tyres
Replace both front to rear fuel lines
Replace front to rear brake pipe
Replace fuel tank as leaking
Replace rear exhaust box and rubbers exhaust trims. Fit new exhaust rubbers.
Install new Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46 DAB
Underside wash and thorough clean. Protection with clear cavity wax.
This very low mileage and unrestored M635 CSI will be handed over to the new owner with every single document from new. The original order form and pro-forma showing the purchase price of DM 82, 607. 82. Original sales invoice, original German registration document, letters regarding UK importation from BMW GB and all these addressed to Brian Hart at Brain Hart Ltd. Every single service invoice from new, previous MOTs, all original manuals, handbooks, fully stamped service book, all tools and spare keys.
