Its origins date back to the late 1960s, to 1967 to be precise, when the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce left the scene and passed the baton to the 1750 GT Veloce, a model that lost the word 'Giulia' in its name. A car of strategic importance, from which the men from Biscione drew inspiration to create a further, even sportier evolution, the 2000 GT Veloce, presented in 1971. The changes made with respect to the model from which it derives are many, starting with certain details of the bodywork. The 2000 GT Veloce is easily recognisable thanks to redesigned rear light clusters and a grille with eight chrome slats that, protruding in the central area, design the Alfa badge. An aesthetic detail that distinguishes the 2000 GT Veloce is then the badge on the rear pillars, which depicts an enamelled green snake instead of the conventional green or gold four-leaf clover. The substantially updated interior sports a new console, more upholstery and more enveloping front seats. The most important innovations, however, lie under the skin. The engine of the 1750, powered by two twin-body carburettors, changes in numerous components. Displacement rises to 1962 cm³, maximum power to 132 hp. Numbers that translated into brilliant performance: 0-100 km/ h was covered in just 7. 2 seconds, while the top speed was close to 200 km/ h. A thoroughbred sports car, the 2000 GT Veloce was to be developed by numerous enthusiasts for racing use. Its career would come to an end five years after its launch in 1976.
