Description
The R129 series came onto the market in 1989 and was the successor to the R107 series. The R129 was praised for its safety features, including an automatic roll bar, improved ABS and two airbags as standard. But the technical leap forward also made this R129 a very attractive convertible. The car had integral seats that offered extra passive safety, a lightweight aluminum hardtop and, among other things, many subcutaneous improvements to, for example, the suspension. The R129 model remained in production until 2001, when it was succeeded by the R230 series. In the beginning, the 500 SL with the 326 hp 5-liter V8 was the top model of the series. It was not until the autumn of 1992 that the 12-cylinder was added to the series, which then became the top version.
The Mercedes-Benz 500 SL at Classic Park was produced in 1991 and was one of the top versions of the SL at the time. Not only it is a timeless and elegant convertible, the car is also equipped with the fine 5-liter V8 engine, which creates a fantastic balance between wonderfully open strolling in opulent luxury and a sporty driving experience with an abundance of power. The rich equipment includes leather upholstery, electrically operated seats, cruise control and automatic air conditioning. The magnificent V8 allows the convertible to accelerate to 100 km/ h in just over 6 seconds and can continue until a limited top speed of 250 km/ h is reached. The 500 SL is supplied with a separate hardtop as standard and is therefore suitable for daily use in all seasons.
This Mercedes-Benz 500 SL was delivered new in the United States of America and has an extensive file of invoices and Carfax data from that period. The odometer shows only 46, 512 verifiable miles (approx. 75, 000 km) and the excellent condition of the car fully corresponds to this low odometer reading. The car has been in the Netherlands since October 2022 and has a Dutch registration.
