We are delighted to present for sale this very early Series 2 (in the first 600 ever made) which we previously sold in 2020 to a local gentleman, who has now sold it back to us to make space for a new project!
Externally, this has all the features you’d hope to see on a Series 2 – the matching bonnet mounted spare, rear grab handles, vintage number plates with dateless registration, wing top mounted mirrors, etc etc. This vehicle was refurbished by us in 2020 and due to being garaged and having just 500 miles of use in the last four years, it looks just as it did when it left us originally – a testament to the previous keeper. Some modern additions like a rear step and modern tow ball mean that things are a bit easier for people looking to load items into the rear or tow a trailer.
On the inside, it is great to see that the features which denote this as an early Series 2 survive – the twist to open “Shalack” vents rather than the later lift type, as well as the horn on the stalk to the right of the steering wheel, which was later encompassed onto the wheel itself. Other early items such as the push button start under the dash & a heater with front demist (which would’ve been a very expensive option new) are great to see. As the photos show, there are three recent standard front seats, which were fitted by us new in 2020, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat, but could house bench seats on request for £595 to give seating for seven occupants including the driver, if so desired.
This is a vehicle which we had the privilege of going to collect when we purchased it back – a round trip of about 30 miles right at the top of Sutton Bank, which to those in the know – is a 25% climb and descent which actually featured in the Tour De France! This meant quite a gruelling route back for a classic car that many would not attempt – lots of braking coming down, lots of gear changes and accelerating, etc – which this old girl took in her stride without any problems at all. The larger rubber means when the road did smooth out she was quite happy at 50mph in the cruise… and she delivers a pleasing “of the period” drive.
In summary, if you are looking for an early Series 2 that you can enjoy with minimal expenditure thanks to MOT & Tax exemption, along with classic insurance, then this could be for you. Being a local car to us for several years, it has enjoyed our care and attention whenever required (which was just the routine servicing in this case) and so the new keeper can rest in the knowledge that it has been “tried and tested”.
