1987 Land Rover® 90 Ragtop *ONLY 36,600 MILES FROM NEW!* (UNT) For Sale

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® 90 Ragtop in XS Stornoway Grey (1987).

Diesel 2495cc. Just 36, 645 miles from new ? just 1000 a year since new! MOT with no advisories until 9th November 2024. Wolf Wheels with New BF Goodrich Tyres. New Bonnet Mounted Spare. Power Steering. 6 Seater. New Canvas with Side Windows. High Back Seats. Stereo & Speakers with USB charging (x2). Cubby Box with Cup Holders. Towbar and Electrics. Released from British Army in 1996. Underbody Protection Package.

We are delighted to present for sale this super-high specification Land Rover® 90, finished in Stornoway Grey Metallic, with colour coded Wolf Rims fitted with brand new BF Goodrich All Terrain Tyres, along with the bonnet mounted spare. This 90 is the lowest mileage 1980s example we?ve ever seen ? originally supplied to the British Army in 1987, and released in 1996. The super low mileage of just 1000 a year since new means a particularly good chassis and bulkhead too, and the engine & gearbox are barely run in!

Externally, we think this 90 looks great ? the metallic paint shines in the sun as the photos show, and all the features one would hope to see are present ? from a new front bumper, defender door mirrors for superior visibility, tow ball and electrics to allow towing, rear grab handles, bonnet mounted spare with matching tyre and military screw lenses for easy bulb changes (no screws needed to change a faulty bulb!). The entire look is completed by a set of colour coded Wolf Rims, with BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres ? a photo is supplied in the gallery above, and they just look incredible. We think this 90 looks as good (if not better) than an almost new one.

The interior is a nice place to be too ? a set of grey front high back seats are fitted, along with matching cubby box ? not only does this mean cup holders for the drive through and secure storage for items ? but integrated into the cubby box is a Stereo & Speakers ? with USB charging, bluetooth audio and hands free calling?. the cubby acts as the ?bass port? for the system, meaning a better sound than one might expect! The rear is fitted with a set of grey bench seats, with a mat to the floor area to protect against dirt and scratches. This means that six people can travel in relative comfort ? and the side windows canvas means a light and airy feel when travelling in the back, along with better visibility for the driver. The floor mats in the front are original OEM ones too ? which is a nice touch. The original convoy switch from the forces is in the middle, with an extra cigarette lighter for USB charging phones and sat nav systems ? the insert as photo?d is supplied with the car for the new keeper, so no fighting on Amazon/ at the local supermarket to find the right attachment.

Out on the road though is where this 90 really shines ? such low mileage and an MOT with no advisories means a fantastic driving experience ? power steering makes parking a doddle, the 5 speed gearbox and coil springs mean a modern-feeling driving experience too. Although these diesels may not be the last word in performance, they are known to be incredibly reliable and this is why they were the engine of choice for the British Army at the time. So ? why would you choose this over an almost new, modern Defender or 90 (of the old style)? Great question?. and the answer is very simple ? not only is this a better value prospect to buy now than a much later variant, but it will also be MOT & Tax Exempt in just four years time, too ? which will be a significant saving. However, the biggest USP of them all is the old school mechanical engineering on offer ? unlike the later ones, which have ECUs and sensors just about everywhere, which go wrong all the time due to the fact they do not like water or oil (and it is a Land Rover® after all) ? this 90 has all the comforts you need without any of the complicated garnish. This means simple repairs, many of which one can do themselves, and no sky-high OBD scanning repair bills or chasing electrical gremlins. Usually, this argument is perhaps countered by the higher mileage of the older units ? but that isn?t the case here. So ? you?ve got a 90 which can still rock with the new boys and looking the part, without the stumbling block of the modern era? complicated electronics!

In summary, if you are looking for a low-mileage, high specification 90 but want the benefits of upcoming MOT & Tax exemption and classic insurances & do not fancy the challenge that expensive to buy modern 90s have in regard to complex electronics and potential thefts, then this could be for you. We do not envisage seeing this 90 in our showroom for long, as we have never seen a lower mileage one of this era in all our time in the business.
