In 1969, the Mini was restyled and the replacement for the Cooper S was born in the form of the 1275GT, the GT was only in production for a relatively short period of 10 years until 1980 making it the rarest of Mini models.
What’s it got?
This late 1980 model year example is finished in vibrant Vermillion red with the original deckchair material interior, three clock dash and Sundym tinted glass. The period look is completed with the Denovo wheel trims/ wheel set up shod in new modern tyres.
How does it drive?
This GT has received a full ground up professional restoration resulting in a like-new driving experience. The original engine and close ratio gearbox have been fully rebuilt by industry specialists with some minor upgrades offering an unforgettable, exhilarating seat of the pants experience.
Why this one?
The market and collectors alike follow the adage ‘First year and last year’, with production finishing in August this example is very late post production car registered in October 1980. During this 18 month restoration process, emphasis was placed on factory-originality - the shell was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its factory-correct Vermillion red finish. The interior complete with the original 3 clock dash was refurbished and fitted by a ‘Bentley Motors’ time-served trimmer along with new carpets and headlining, full mechanical refurbishment using as many original components as possible, the original engine and gearbox have been fully rebuilt, new clutch, brakes, master cylinder, brake and fuel lines all replaced, the original Sundym glass with opening rear quarter lights refitted with new rubbers, the exterior finessed with new old stock genuine GT bumpers.
Highly collectable, this original shell, matching numbers GT with the correct and original interior. The standard of finish will meet the demands of the most fanatical of collector, investor or enthusiast - one who understands and appreciates the attention to detail taken in bringing this amazing GT to factory correctness.
The work undertaken has been exhaustive, and the costs to complete such a build would make recreating a similar car extremely cost-prohibitive. With this in mind, combined with its undeniable quality and uniqueness, it’s clear to see that this car represents superb value.
