An absolutely lovely W140 series S-Class S420 with an interesting back story and in lovely condition. This is a car I've owned myself now in a personal capacity for the last couple of years, but lack of storage space and chances to use it mean this and my equally nice E38 BMW 728I Sport are both up for sale.

Ordered brand new by a successful UK based Danish businessman and Rolls-Royce/ Bentley collector to replace his previous W126 generation 420SE, the car was specified as an S420 in short wheelbase form in Metallic Tourmaline Green with Mushroom Leather, and was registered "JP 41". The car also had his personal crest monogrammed on both front doors - no vinyl graphics here, these were carefully applied by the coachbuilders who looked after his classic Rolls-Royce's. For the first few years the car was his daily driver, making the long commute between Suffolk and his offices in Canary Wharf. The car was used as his main car until 2006 when it was replaced by a brand new Bentley Flying Spur. With no shortage of space, and being a huge petrolhead, "Mr P" kept the S420 (along with its W126 predecessor) indoors with his classic car collection, on the registration "J1 ENS". Over the next 16 years he still used the car occasionally but it has always lived indoors and as such is in fantastic condition for a W140. Upon his death the car was re-registered to his widow and as such shows 2 keepers from new.

Being a late model W140 from the last year of production, the car even has factory fitted Mercedes satellite navigation, and original dealer fit Nokia mobile phone. It was also specified new with heated front seats, a fire extinguisher, digital climate control, power folding door mirrors, and Xenon headlamps. The condition is simply excellent for a 26 year old car and could easily pass for that of a 50, 000 mile example - testament to having spent the vast majority of its life from 2006 kept indoors in semi retirement.

The car has recently benefited from some new brake pipes for last years MOT, and mechanically she runs exceptionally well - the "Swiss watch" analogy is a bit of a cliche but true in this instance. Other recent work includes some minor cosmetic tidying carried out and protection of the wheel arches with the liners removed, cleaned and Dinitrol cavity wax applied as well as to the sills. The front wheel arch liners were also replaced with new at the same time. The cosmetic condition of the car is generally excellent as can be seen from the photographs. There is the original leather wallet with owners handbooks and original service booklet, and even the original hardback brochure and UK price list.

You will very well find lower mileage W140s for sale, rare as they are becoming, but I very much doubt you will find a nicer example at this price point. There is a folder full of previous MOTs and paperwork, and a valid MOT until the 20th March 2025.
