This W113 280 SL is the recipient of a recent extensive and expensive overhaul, returning it to as new condition. Finished in metallic blue paint with a blue mohair fabric roof (it comes with its hardtop, too) over a chestnut interior this combination looks sensational here. Ignore the 72, 264 miles displaying on the odometer, and its previous 3 owners, this 280 SL ready to double that mileage with its next owner – something we’d readily encourage them to do.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS:
A you might hope given the recent restoration this 280 SL is in superb condition. Finished to a standard that means it can be enjoyed on the road, rather than just squirrelled away gathering dust in a collection. This is exactly how these cars should be used. Mechanically, it’s in fine fettle, driving just as it should, and we can’t deny we’re a little bit in love with the colour combination of this car.
We’d be lying if we told you it was absolutely perfect; the paint finish is of a standard we’d describe as good rather than exceptional, but if you’re planning on using it rather than just looking at it that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While we’re on the negatives, we’d source some replacement old-style number plates, as the front one’s got previous holes for screws in it, and they’d look so much better flush mounted.
HISTORY FILE:
Given its age it’s not unusual that the history file cannot be described as comprehensive, with paperwork on 50+ year-old cars often going AWOL. Indeed, if you’re looking for receipts and details about this car prior to 2022 you’ll be disappointed. Instead, you’ll find a good thick wad of invoices demonstrating that this 280 SL’s had a lot of money spent on it, and a lot of time, too, which, really, is all the history you need. In the box file there’s details of the new hood, renewed chrome and a list of parts that’s lengthy enough to reach from the SLSHOP to Stuttgart. Those, and its clear superb condition, tell you everything you need to know about this Pagoda.

It might be light on previous history, though we’re looking into it, but this 280 SL’s recent expensive and extensive overhaul negates that, and creates a fabulous opportunity for its next owner. That is to buy and drive it, this being a car that’s begging for someone to daily it, because it’s ready to do exactly that. Bring it back annually for a service here and it’ll serve you as well as it has its previous owners over the past 50+ years.
