Description

For many fans of the octagon, the T-Series MGS embody exactly what one imagines as an old-school roadster. In 1936 the first MG TA was presented as the successor to the Midget. After TA units built in 2002, a total of 379 TB followed until the outbreak of war. In 1945, the first MG TCs left the factory in Abingdon for 375 pounds, where over 10, 000 units were produced by 1949. The MG TD marked a change in the sports policy of the parent company MG (Morris Garage). MG was allowed to officially participate in motorsport events again, which ultimately led to the MG TD Mark II. A few of these examples received “Special Homologation” and were built with the aim of being able to keep up with the rather small 1250cc engine in the 1. 5l class. The TD became famous as a “Special” in the Le Mans race, where it took part as an MG A prototype. The streamlined bodywork allowed a speed that was too high, which the engine of the not at all streamlined MG TD could not withstand. The MG TD is the most successful of all MG models in the T series. Not only because it was technically superior and, above all, reliable, but also because it offered more comfort than its predecessors and its successor, the MG TF. This example was restored an unknown period of time ago with obviously great effort and is still in extremely well-maintained condition today. The veterans exam was renewed in August 2023.

Bodywork and paintwork:
The original "Old English White" paint is clean throughout and has very few signs of age on the hood hinges and door edges. The doors close cleanly and have the typical TD gaps

Interior:
The leather interior was renewed a few years ago. The seats were reupholstered and the carpeting was also renewed. As part of the ongoing maintenance, a new, high-quality Sonnenland soft top was fitted.
The wooden dashboard is undamaged and the instrument panels have been given a high-quality chrome finish.

Engine and mechanics:
An original type B replacement engine was installed some time ago. The exact running time cannot be determined. The compression and exhaust gas values are very good and there is no sign of major wear. The gearbox shifts well and the clutch also works without grinding.

Chassis:
The chassis, shock absorbers and brakes were tested during the MFK inspection in summer 2023 and passed the test stands with good values.

Driving experience:
The MG TD is the most successful of all MG models in the T series. Not only because it was technically superior and, above all, reliable, but also because it offered more comfort than its predecessors and even its successor, the MG TF.

Recommendation:
The TD is a genuine classic car with a nod to the pre-war era. Its technical reliability, solid workmanship and relatively low maintenance costs make the TD a popular true classic for connoisseurs who want to take a classic car out on the road.
