We are pleased to offer a very rare and totally eighties 1984 Austin Mini HLE. Finished in that period metallic Opaline green with contrasting matte black bumpers mirrors, grille and door handles. This wonderful time capsule has only covered Nineteen thousand miles in 40 years with just two previous owners. It was only used sparingly for the first few years of its life and then carefully stored. In 2022 it was comprehensively recommissioned from front to back with a long list of new parts all of which is detailed in the service history folder and it has been used and enjoyed since. HLE Minis are very rare indeed. Produced in very low numbers before the introduction of the Mini Mayfair. They head many unique features including peak eighties colours such as Opaline green, Sundym windows, ten inch wheels with full trim covers, 2 clock dash and , matte black styling. They have matured well and now really stand out from the crowd especially if an original one like this can be found. many were modified and changed so a low owner ultra low mileage example is a rare find.
On the road this HLE is excellent fun to drive. The original low mileage 998 engine is very responsive with smooth power delivery and as you can imagine the gearbox is taught and precise. This was the first Mini to adopt the A plus engine that was fitted to the new Metro at the time offering a more refined performance and up to 60 MPG. The brakes, suspension and all running gear have been fully worked through including four new tyres so the handling is as it should be in any good Mini, amazing and always ready to make you smile.
Another excellent feature of the HLE is the trim. Tan Hounds tooth check with brown door cards, carpets and the original roof liner. This was the first Mini to have the two clock binnacle in front of the steering wheel which was Austin's attempt to modernise the Mini. This model also has rear seat belts. This was also historically the last of the ten inch wheel Minis. The interior is as it left the factory offering the pure Mini driving experience.
The Mini has a very solid shell. It is completely Opaline green throughout, including the whole of the underside, inner wheel arches, floor pans, engine bay and load area. It has its original vented sills and the subframes still look new. In terms of maintenance it is a great proposition as keeping it clean is very simple.
The Mini is very well presented and in fantastic condition in all of its HLE splendour and it always manages to gather a crowd wherever I take it.
The Mini is fully serviced, checked and driven and has a long no advisory MOT and many new parts. It is also MOT and tax exempt.
